Open Letter to AMLSN National Leadership

Uchejeso, Obeta

I am Particularly happy with the crèam of AMLSN Members elected in Kaduna. It seems the best and unique types of members were elected to make a difference with unity of purpose. Once more, congratulations!!!!

The emergence of Dr. Bassey to me is the best thing that  can happen to AMLSN. I CONCLUDED that if after Dr. Bassey with this calibre of EXCO and there is no tangible difference in AMLSN in all ramifications, I shall loose hope in AMLSN having told myself that if BEB cannot make AMLSN better, no other person can including myself.

It is germane to remind the NEOs that the fate of all MLS are hanging you while the AMLSN members expectations are on the zenith in this administration not minding the perceived opposition from some quarters.

On this premise, I would like to  suggest as follows:

  1.  That the National Executive Officers (NEOs) should as matter of urgency address the issue of MLS to have one mode of entry, one curriculum, one type of institution of training and best practice in MLS education in Nigeria.
  2.  That this leadership should be Young MLS friendly in all ramifications to encourage mentoring and growth in the profession.
  3. That there should be a policy in place to carry MLTs/MLAs along from National to Chapters in order to ensure adequate Laboratory control all over the Nation.
  4. There should be a full collaboration with MLSCN to create benchmark of MLSct personnel expected of any Diagnostic and Training institution for adequate recommendations during inspection and accreditation thereby creating more job opportunities for fellow professionals.
  5. Create a policy for outgoing President and Chairman of Branches to be sponsored to National Assembly and State Assembly respectively after their tenures.
  6.  Do everything possible to reduce numerous levies and payments always experienced in MLS from year to year and enthrone accountability in the Association.
  7. Ensure that the MLS Profession is rebranded to include:                  i. Endorsement of Title                                                                  ii. Addition of BMLS among various degrees  options in all online forms                                                                                        iii. Addition of MLS among other health  courses to be displayed in any portal in Nigeria and Diaspora                                iv. Ensuring that our logo and abbreviation  (AMLSN) is popular in Nigeria.  At least, MLS issues should make daily headlines at least once in a week                                                         vi. Our conferences should be henceforth rebranded and sponsored by Intl/NGO partners inline with their annual health plan packages.
  8. Hasten up a reunion summit of MLS/ NEC to resolve the ₦5000 compulsory conference fee which has gotten acceptance of majority, Plateau for instance as it would help early collection during renewal of licence from as soon as January.
  9. The government should show difference and positive change from what is obtainable in AMLSN Leadership and accountability.
  10. I commend the steps so far but you may have to hasten up in showing MLS world in Nigeria the rot in the system and provide adequate template to run the association but not necessarily probing the past administration.
  11. The present NEOs would be highly challenged to work with highest expectations and you should not have any excuse not to perform.
  12. Looking at the recent happenings, this leadership would record highest number of complaints than suggestions due to the confidence reposed on this government. Please my dear NEOs, keep the ball of success rolling.                                                                                                                                                        In conclusion, I shall be particularly happy with the government if it achieves much within the tenure which shall be the shortest tenure in AMLSN leadership as part of this NEOs sacrifice to make AMLSN better.
