The outgoing Director of Medical Laboratory Science, Federal Medical Center, Gusau, Zamfara State Alhaji Mustafa Marafa has said he is fulfilled as a Civil Servant looking back at his antecedents, bridges he has built, opportunities he has facilitated, and what he has achieved for the professional body as well as Federal Medical Centre Gusau Zamfara State.
Alh. Marafa made the statement when colleagues, friends, and family rolled out the drums to celebrate him at a send-forth/retirement party held in his honour by the staff of laboratory at Federal Medical Center Gusau.
The outgoing Director said:
“Looking back at my antecedents as a civil servant, I can say that I am fulfilled with the people I have made, bridges I have built, opportunities that I have facilitated, what I have achieved for my professional body and the Federal Medical Center, Gusau, Zamfara State at large, I have nothing to say than to appreciate the Lord Almighty for this successful ending.”
The event which took place at the College of Islamic studies Hall, Gusau was attended by many dignitaries including Chief Medical Director FMC Gusau, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Kwartarkwashi; Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis; Immediate Past Medical Director, Alh. Suleiman Anka; Head of Clinical Services Dr. Sunday Onasi; Dr. Kabir Saadah; Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary; Chairman Hospital Service Management Board; AMLSN Chapter Chairman, MLS. Yusuf Moriki and other distinguished personalities.
Declaring the event opening, Hajia Lubabatu Sani who is the Deputy Director of Medical Laboratory Services described the Former Director as as torchbearer, impact maker, and peacebuilder who has served selflessly in the best interest of humanity. She also challenged her colleagues that the retirement of the Director did not mean the quality laboratory practice has finished stressing the she believes that he is a good leader because he has good successors.
She further charged them to look inwardly into their faiths, improve their commitment to service, uphold the culture of respect, and not condone the habit of lateness. She therefore reminded everyone that the reality of retirement happening to the Director will happen to everyone someday, encouraging colleagues to serve well to leave a lasting legacy just like he did.
Professor Bilbis, who was his childhood friend, described the celebrant as an exceptional and selfless personality. He narrated how he forfeited a scholarship opportunity just because of them(friends) and narrated the time he couldn’t see with two eyes but listen to study, write exams, and still maintain his scholarly grades. Professor further ended it on a personal note that, in any critical decision of his life, Alh Mustafa was his sole consultant and he has never regretted any advice given to him.
Eulogising the Former Director, the Chairman Association of Medical Laboratory Technicians of Nigeria (AMELTAN), Tech. Mustafa, on behalf of the other technicians expressed appreciation to him for what he has done for them as a Director and as well as a father. He described him as a bridge builder because of the harmony he built between scientists and technicians with no iota of discrimination and as well career progression.
The Celebrant in his speech appreciated everyone for coming far and near to rejoice with him on the occasion earmarked for his retirement after his 35-year of active service. He also advised the staff on early investment while still in the service, describing civil servants as fish that can only survive inside water. He further encouraged them to maintain the unity between them by buttressing it with a cliche that says: ” united we stand, together we fall” and wished them the very best.
