The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) recently disclosed the number of qualified medical Lab. Scientists who have acquired their annual practising licence for 2023.
Dr. Tosan Erhabor, the Registrar of MLSCN, shared this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.
According to him, out of the 40,523 registered professionals, only 15,358 are currently in good standing, holding valid licences for the year 2023.
Established as a Federal Government statutory regulatory agency by Act 11 of 2003, MLSCN operates as a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health. Its primary responsibility lies in regulating medical laboratory services by overseeing the registration and licensing of medical laboratories and practitioners.
The council is also empowered by the Act to regulate the training of medical lab. scientists, technicians, and assistants.
