Six influential individuals across various fields have been honoured with the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Diamond Awards of Excellence for their remarkable contributions to public service, health, and business.
They were honoured during the opening ceremony of the Association’s 60th Annual Scientific Conference and Diamond Jubilee Anniversary, held at the Landmark Event Centre in Owerri, Imo State on the 15th of November, 2024.
Themed Heartland 2024, the event attracted a broad audience, including prominent professionals and officials from various sectors, all gathered to celebrate AMLSN’s longstanding contributions to healthcare in Nigeria and to honor the exceptional accomplishments of the six awardees.
Among the awardees was Sen. Dr. Aliyu Magatakada Wamakko, former Governor of Sokoto State, awarded AMLSN Diamond Award for Excellence in Philanthropic Transformation and Leadership.
Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, was also recognized with the AMLSN Diamond Award for Excellence in Professional Leadership in Public Service.
Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, OON, a member of the House of Representatives and Chair of the House Committee on Navy, received the AMLSN Diamond award for Excellence in Representative Leadership.
Hon. Chidi Mark Obetta, Honourable Member representing Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, was honored with AMLSN Diamond Award for People-Centered Transformational Leadership.
In the business sector, Chief (Dr.) Charles Okechukwu Anyanwu, Chairman of DCL Group, received AMLSN Diamond award for Public Health Innovative Technologies and Logistic Service, while Kingsley Onyegbula, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Kings Sciencewares Nig Ltd, was recognized with AMLSN Diamond Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurial Leadership.

In his address, AMLSN National President Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi highlighted the association’s milestones over the last six decades, noting its critical role in advancing medical laboratory science, supporting public health initiatives, and enhancing disease prevention and management. “Our commitment to quality assurance and professional development has elevated medical laboratory science as an indispensable pillar of healthcare delivery,” he said. Dr. Ifeanyi further emphasized AMLSN’s role in pioneering diagnostic advancements, from traditional methods to state-of-the-art techniques in molecular biology and automation, underscoring the association’s resilience and progress despite challenges.
