Medlabconvo Webinar

0ver time, it has been observed that the public has always mistaken the Medical Laboratory Professionals for Medical Doctors and sometimes Science Laboratory technologist. This is because the public isn’t well informed about the roles and functions of Medical Laboratory Professionals in healthcare delivery and this could be on the bases that we are “hidden” or we work “behind the scene”. On the motive to clarify these misinformation/assumptions of the public about Medical Laboratory Professionals, Medlabconvo was founded.

MedLabConvo is an advocacy group founded in September 2019 with the goal of enhancing public awareness on the medical laboratory profession and to educate them on the role of the medical laboratory professional in healthcare delivery through social media conversations using the hashtag #letstalkmedlab. #letstalkmedlab is set out to bring clarity to the understanding of what Medical Laboratory Practice is all about in our society.
At MedLabConvo, we also set out to build capacity among Medical Laboratory Science Students and Young Professionals, not just across Nigeria but the entire world by organizing webinars, training and workshops.
Within 10 months of Medlabconvo being founded, we have been able to talk on various health day recognized by World health organisation on our social media platforms by giving facts, types, causes, signs and symptoms, prevention, treatment and most importantly diagnosis of these health issues which shows the role played by Medical Laboratory Scientists in the health sector. This also helps us to create awareness about these health issues to the public.
Also, we have been able to get quotes from reputable scientists in Nigeria like Elvis C.Umez, Onaolapo Abimbola, Aliu Israel giving their opinion of the Medical laboratory profession, this encourages our followers to give their suggestions and contributions which creates a form of engagement between Scientists.
A UTME Guideline on Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria was also put together with links shared on our social media platforms to inform and enlighten registered and intending students who are putting in for the course on what should be expected.
On capacity building, A free online webinar was also organized for Medical Laboratory Science students in 400level and 500level on “Research and Project”.More than 600 students from 3 African countries (Nigeria, Kenya &Cameroon) gained from this webinar. They were enlightened and educated on the important things they should note and prepare before starting their Research and Project. The facilitators were Gabriel Oke and Odinaka Kingsley.
The second free webinar on “The Concept Of Research And Accessing Opportunities” was organized a few months later with E-certificates issued to interested participants who were mostly young professionals and students. It was facilitated by Emmanuel Kings and Idowu Dare. A larger number of participants was recorded compared to the first webinar
